Stuck on repeat…November 2015

The latest SOR is laden this month as I’ve really been enjoying my tunes! There’s a real mix of genres as always and you can follow all my musical #stuckonrepeat adventures on my Spotify playlist here. Click on titles for links to the songs.

Sunglasses at Night – Corey Hart
You can’t beat a good synth beat. Play this loud whilst walking down a street and werrk it girlfriend! *clicks fingers*

Favourite lyric: I wear my sunglasses at night / So I can, So I can / Watch you weave then breathe your story lines

Powerful Love – Chuck & Mac

I caught this at the end of Looper (a brilliant little sci-fi film with a great cast) feeling mood indigo at the horrors of the world and missing hubby who was away on a work trip. There’s something about this kind of voice that suits a heart that hurts.

Favourite lyric: Because I love you, with a love so powerful / Oh, so powerful, it’s a sin

Nemesis – Benjamin Clementine

I heard this on TFI Friday and was transfixed by the simplicity of the song and the tone of his voice: Nina Simone reincarnated. Beautiful and soaring with the best use of a hum.

Favourite lyric: If I held my breath on you / I would have died a thousand times / And if chewing was to show you how much I cared / I’d probably be wearing a denture by now

Iron Sky – Paolo Nutini (Hudson Mohawke Remix)

So much evil in the world and somehow I keep reverting back to this beautiful song. Listen to the original, but this version is pretty cool too. How many songs do you know that contain a portion of a Charlie Chaplin speech?

Favourite lyrics: [the entire Great Dictator speech but especially…] You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful

Josephine – Ritual

A beautiful song which reminds me of my darling Joseph-ine. Features the stunning tones of Lisa Hannigan.

Favourite lyric: I’ll never be good enough / I warned you babe / But let me try once more

Intro (Delirium) & Aftertaste – Ellie Goulding

I wonder if Miss G has the same problem as me; always thinking people are saying your name? No? Just me then! Love this intro and first track off the new album.

Favourite lyric: I know there’s nothing that I can do to make you stay / But one thing I know that will always remain / And that’s the aftertaste

Adventure of a Lifetime – Coldplay

I’ve loved these guys since I first heard Yellow and it’s been interesting to hear their sound change over the years. This is a Coldplay version of a disco song and that makes me happy.

Favourite lyric: And if we’ve only got this life / You get me through / And if we’ve only got this life / In this adventure, oh then I /Want to share it with you
